The Moths

Using Symbolism and Characterization In the short story â€Å"The Moths† by Helena Maria Viramontes, the creator utilizes imagery and portrayal to paint the area of a young lady in an artistic fiction that has lost her direction and winds up ending up inside her Grandmother through the patterns of life.Through the eyes of an anonymous young lady we remember a past that has both a horrendous consummation and another chain on life; in any case, we don't arrive without first being demonstrated the way, enter â€Å"The Moths†. The writer uses far edges of the light range to connote beginnings and endings by painting a distinctive picture for the peruser: â€Å"There comes when the sun is defiant.Just about when states of mind change, unavoidable periods of a day, advances starting with one shading then onto the next, that hour or moment or second when the sun is at last vanquished, at last sinks into the acknowledgment that it can't with all its capacity to recuperate or c onsume, exist everlastingly, there comes an enlightenment where the sun and earth meet, a last eruption of consuming red orange rage advising us that in spite of the fact that endings are inescapable, they are vital for resurrections, and when the opportunity arrived, exactly when I turned on the light in the kitchen to open Abuelita’s soup, it was presumably then that she died† (Viramontes 4).She discloses to the peruser why the sun causes various shades of red and orange for the duration of the day, the shades themselves speak to a life expectancy of various ages, which turn various hues with the coming seasons â€Å"of the day†, rather than the year, toward the finish of that day the sun kicks the bucket and another moon is conceived instead of that sun, and when a moon passes on the sun is renewed the following day, thus goes the pattern of life. With this the storyteller likewise expresses that â€Å"endings are inevitable† thus when we take a gander at the Grandmother we definitely realize that she will bite the dust since her end is, as the storyteller says â€Å"inevitable†.The last line in the passage is maybe the absolute most significant piece that ties the entirety of the utilization of imagery together. At the point when the storyteller turns the light on, another day has begun as a resurrection brought about by her Grandmothers passing the moon in the story isn't as present as the sun, notwithstanding, we realize that the Grandmother’s name is â€Å"Luna†, which interpreted in the storytellers local tongue of Spanish is â€Å"moon†, we realize her language is Spanish on account of the reliable utilization of Latin terms like; â€Å"Placa†, â€Å"Menudo†, or even â€Å"Heliotrope†, which is a local plant of Peru.Since the moon is the perfect inverse of the sun we can say that, in the human component of the story there is Grandma Luna which is right now at the consummation of her â€Å"moon life† and toward the start of her resurrection towards another day as the â€Å"sun†, the light, as an image of resurrection speaking to the sun, seems once again in the story, where in the wake of her Grandmothers demise, the storyteller is viewing the moths â€Å"fluttering to light†, conveying her Grandmother’s soul to a spot were it can become reborn.I accept that the author’s deliberately picked name of â€Å"Luna† for the Grandmother was in actuality to show the peruser that our demise is inescapable however our resurrection as far as bliss is changeable.Equally significant in the story is the utilization of portrayal to show the peruser precisely who the hero in the story is and what sort of life she is living, we previously read of her sisters and how they act as opposed to the hero: â€Å"I [the narrator] wasn't even pretty or pleasant like my more seasoned sisters and I just couldn't do the young lady things they could do†, the storyteller first obtusely tells the peruser that she is not the same as her sisters and afterward shows the peruser precisely how they are not the equivalent using portrayal, â€Å"My hands were too enormous to deal with the delicacies of stitching or weaving and I generally pricked my fingers or hitched my hued strings on numerous occasions while my sisters chuckled and called me bull hands with their adorable waterlike voices. †. With the entirety of this data we can tell that the storyteller is experiencing issues in her own way and doesn't feel good in her own body, it appears that she is to a greater degree a kid then a young lady as per the principles set out by her mom and father. Be that as it may, can any anyone explain why the storyteller ought to fit in with these gauges? Now we definitely realize that they are rather than one another yet the explanation with regards to for what reason is profound established through one more mean, conformity .Her father is exceptionally given to his strict convictions and needs his family to adjust, â€Å"He would pound his hands on the table, shaking the sugar dish or spilling some espresso and shout that in the event that I didn't go to mass each Sunday to spare my goddamn erring soul, at that point I had no motivation to leave the house, time frame. Punto last. †, the storyteller has issues with this since she wouldn't like to fit in with something she doesn't herself put stock in. The peruser realizes she feels awkward in a congregation since she says â€Å"I was distant from everyone else. I know why I had never returned† when she went to the house of prayer, in this way we are left to the end that the storyteller has a free soul that longs to turn out to be liberated from the convictions that have been gave to her. As it were she is totally different of her whole family, or so we see accordingly far.Grandma Luna is a fascinating character, she doesn't have numerous l ines in the story yet the introduction of her character assumes a significant job with regards to who precisely she is, the place she originated from, where she is going, however much progressively significant, where she is driving the storyteller. The Grandmother’s life matches that of the storyteller in the regard that at some point during her life she was additionally resistant, â€Å"The scars on her back which were as thick as the existence lines on the palms of her hands caused me to acknowledge how little I truly knew about Abuelita†. This line is enlightening to the storyteller, just because she understands that she isn't the only one in her own beliefs. She additionally needs to turn out to be free similar to her Grandmother is, â€Å"I preferred her yard since it was protected by the vines of the chayotes and I could get a decent glance at the individuals and vehicle traffic on Evergreen without them knowing†, she loves the patio on the grounds that the vines are developing in and around her Grandmothers home, she likewise feels ensured by the vines. We likewise realize she thinks about her Grandmother, due to the manner in which she discusses her, â€Å"Really, I told my Ama it was just fair†. Indeed, even before her acknowledgment of Grandma Luna’s insubordination the storyteller felt a solid association with her, however observing the scars she has an extraordinary feeling of why it is that she gets along so well with her Grandmother. They are both particularly similar, and she feels â€Å"safe† around her, â€Å"I [the narrator] consistently felt her dim eye on me.It caused me to feel, in a weird kind of way, protected and watched and not the only one. Like God should make you feel†, the creators decision of the word â€Å"was†, discloses to us that god doesn't cause her to feel safe, rather it is her Grandmother whom she trusts in. The storyteller herself is insubordinate and even discourteo us now and again, anyway her disobedience isn't managed without reason; it is done in view of her own convictions. Her mom and father have solid strict convictions and attempt to drive those convictions upon her, when she wouldn't like to adjust she fakes going to chapel and rather, heads toward her Grandmother’s home where she discovers comfort in helping her Grandmother with her day by day chores.Viramontes decides to keep the storyteller anonymous so the peruser feels like they are assuming the job of the storyteller, in the event that she had named her â€Å"Alice† or â€Å"Lisa†, at that point the crowd probably won't have felt a solid association with the storyteller and the message of resurrection and changing your own psychological status to accomplish a type of edification, might not have been practiced. At long last we understand the reason for the story, it tells about the resurrection any individual can make by changing the manner in which they see t he world. The storyteller saw the world fresh out of the box new without precedent for an alternate light in view of her Grandmother’s passing and resulting resurrection through the moths, conveying her spirit to â€Å"new light†. It’s not from an exacting perspective that the storyteller is conceived once more; rather it’s all the more a psychological status change that the storyteller has experienced, and as a result of that she finds a sense of contentment with herself. The Moths Using Symbolism and Characterization In the short story â€Å"The Moths† by Helena Maria Viramontes, the creator utilizes imagery and portrayal to paint the area of a young lady in a scholarly fiction that has lost her direction and winds up ending up inside her Grandmother through the patterns of life.Through the eyes of an anonymous young lady we remember a past that has both a horrendous completion and another chain on life; in any case, we don't arrive without first being demonstrated the way, enter â€Å"The Moths†. The writer uses furthest edges of the light range to imply beginnings and endings by painting a striking picture for the peruser: â€Å"There comes when the sun is defiant.Just about when dispositions change, inescapable periods of a day, advances starting with one shading then onto the next, that hour or moment or second when the sun is at last crushed, at long last sinks into the acknowledgment that it can't with all its capacity to recuperate or con sume, exist everlastingly, there comes a brightening where the sun and earth meet, a last eruption of consuming red orange rage advising us that despite the fact that endings are unavoidable, they are vital for resurrections, and when the opportunity arrived, exactly when I turned on the light in the kitchen to open Abuelita’s soup, it was most likely then that

Canon in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam Free Essay Example, 750 words

Canon" in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam Introduction Canons are important laws in religion since they describe the nature of the relationship that exists between God and humans. Just as the name suggests, religious canon refer to a set of regulation whose primary objective is to guide the behavior of the adherents of a particular faith. Such religious faiths as Islam, Christianity and Judaism among many others have specific laws that guide the morality of their adherents thus enhancing the development of the respective religious faiths. The canons differ in each of the three religions thus outlining the significance differences in the three religions as the discussion below portrays. In Christianity, the Holy bible describes the laws, their sources and importance. The same is the case in Islam in which the Holy Quran outlines the laws and in Judaism where the Torah outlines the same. The holy Quran indicates that the Sharia existed even before the birth of the holy prophet. As such, the holy Quran provides a set of laws as provide by God to his people. Behaving in the manner required by the laws ad upholding the laws did not only safeguard the sanctity of the adherents of the faiths but also resulted in the creation of peaceful and cohesive societies. We will write a custom essay sample on Canon in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now The religious canons provide an effective platform for the adherents of a faith to maintain morality thus upholding the dictates of the faiths. The creation of the respective canons in the faiths is equally mystical since they embody the teachings and doctrines of the particular faiths. In Islam, the sharia represents the canons, which are a set of rules and guidelines taught and upheld by the holy prophet Muhammad in the sunnah. The canons describe the nature of the relationship that God required man to establish both among themselves and with Him. By upholding the specific religious laws, the canons succeed in safeguarding the longevity of the faiths since successive lineages pass the canons orally or through articulate literature. In doing this, the canons further succeed in creating the peaceful and cohesive societies envisioned by God. The same concept and role of the canons manifest itself in Christianity as well. The first set of laws in the bible originates from God as he strives to regulate the behavior of the Israelites. With the introduction of Jesus in the New Testament, Jesus reaffirms the need for upholding the laws besides introducing a feature of liberty in the religion. In retrospect, the above discussion presents the position and the role of canons in the respective religions. Al the faith presents the canons as holy and created by God. In Judaism, the laws are known as Halakha. The laws are both written and oral often passed down through a series of linages through the teachings of the religious leaders1. The nature of the canons just as is the case with the other religions strives to unify the adherents of the faith by providing a standard for behavior. This results in the creation of holistic and equally cohesive societies. The Torah, which is the holy book in Judaism, provides a chronological set of required behaviors thus providing the adherents of the faith with a series of legislations often interpreted by the leaders of the religion thus ensuring the longevity of the faith as has been the case. The origin of the canons is among the primary factors that contribute to their authority in all the three religions. In Christianity for example, God hands Moses a set of ten laws to guide the behavior and the relationship of the Israelites. The same is the case in Islam in which the primary laws are the Mosaic laws. However, the leaders of the religions developed further laws based on the basic laws given by God. Jesus Christ in Christianity for example explains that his coming to earth was not to change the Mosaic laws but to fulfil them. This validates the approval of the canons by God thus imploring the adherence with the laws. In Judaism, the Halakha have a divine origin as well since just as is the case with the other two religions, God plays a fundamental role in the origin of the laws. The introduction of Jesus Christ in the New Testament introduces the concepts of repentance and forgiveness as an effective way of seeking God’s forgiveness. Without repentance sinners, face punishments from God. The same is the case in Islam in which the holy Quran explains that the holy prophet Muh ammad revises the laws without necessarily changing. In doing this, the prophet places the canons in the dynamic contemporary society thereby fostering the growth of the religion. The canons were relative to the respective societies; this validates the subsequent revision of the laws in order to fit the dynamic social contexts. Additionally, the laws had strategic ways of ensuring adherence. In the old testament of the bible for example, God outlined ways of ensuring that the Israelites adhered to the laws. God further explains the numerous ways for the Israelites to seek restoration in case they sin. In retrospect, the canons play similar roles in the three religions. The divine origin of the canons coupled with the systematic ways of their implementation and adherence contributes to the growth of the religions thus enhancing their incorporation in the contemporary society. The fact that modern day secular governments have laws that uphold the morality and virtues espoused by the canons validates the essence of the canons in the development of both the religions and the societies. Cola Wars Porters 5 Forces Free Essays

Michael Porter developed five different forces in a framework he felt influenced industries. This framework was designed to help companies find ways to off-set a rival company and to help develop a more solid business plan. It has been known over the years a rivalry has existed been two of the biggest soda companies, Coca Cola and Pepsi. We will write a custom essay sample on Cola Wars: Porters 5 Forces or any similar topic only for you Order Now Three of Porter’s forces that are exemplified in this â€Å"coke war† are buyer power, barriers to entry, and rivalry which will be explained and elaborated on in the following essay. Buyer Power The retailers have a low to moderate buyer power over the consumer soft drink industry, due to the producer’s ability to forward integrate, the sheer number of buyers, and the buyer’s ability to forward integrate. Buyer power is the degree of influence customers have on the producing agent. Soft drink companies such as Coca Cola and Pepsi have used forward integration to take over their channels of distribution. They created contracts that gave them the ability to set concentrate prices for their bottlers; in turn bottlers would respond to price fulgurations by adjusting retail pricing. In 2000, when Coca Cola raised concentrate prices by 7. 6%, bottlers raised the retail prices by 6 to 7%. This demonstrates that buyers have limited control over the price changes. Coca Cola has also made great efforts to take over the bottling of their product, by establishing the independent subsidiary Coca Cola Enterprises. They began by acquiring bottlers to produce one third of their volume during 1986 which increased to 80% in 2004. This gave Coca Cola more control over retail pricing, and distribution of their products to retail stores. Since there are so many retail stores that carry products that consumer soft drink, CSD, companies make, it is hard for buyers to create a collaborative effort to resist price increases. Buyer power also suffers if retailers are fragmented and are not concentrated to a single type. Almost any type of store will carry a CSD product, which makes sales very spread out across the board. The different kinds of intermediaries involved in retail sales are Fountain and Vending machines, Super-markets, Convenience and Gas, Super Centers, Mass Retailers, and Club and Drug Stores. To put things in perspective 34 % of sales comes from Fountain and Vending, while 31% are from supermarkets. Fountain and Vending machines are mostly controlled by the CSD bottlers. Even though supermarkets may sell the second largest volume, CSD companies make up 5. 5% of their sales and also bring customers to their door. Not enough to convince you? Consider this: CSD companies such as Coca Cola produce a wide variety of products ranging from sports drinks to water, all the way to energy drinks. Coca Cola most likely will not sell a product to a supermarket unless they carry their full line of products. If the retail prices increase on the Coca Cola product they may have little control over resistance, because they rely on the other products they provide. Lastly, Coca Cola is considered the most valuable brand in the world, with 10 major successful brands and substantial power in the realm of business. Although Coca Cola may have a significant amount of power over their buyers, companies with much smaller market share, and product lines are taken advantage of by larger retailers. For example, mass merchandisers make up 14% of Pepsi’s total revenue, making that intermediary crucial to the company’s profitability. In some cases retailers do have power to resist price increases because they purchase a large number of outputs. Typically there are far more buyers than concentrate producers, which can give them leverage over smaller brands that rely on the sales they generate. Barriers to Entry When entering a market there are certain barriers that prevent a firm from becoming established, or gaining market share. In the consumer soft drink industry there are high capital requirements, unequal access to distribution channels, and brand loyalty which translates to high barriers to entry. In the text it states the price of a concentrate manufacturing plant is fairly reasonable. Manufacturing facilities cost around $25 million, and $50 million including machinery, overhead, and labor. For established companies with separate revenue streams, generating this kind of money could be fairly reasonable, especially since one of these plants can serve the entire country. Coca Cola and Pepsi operate around 100 plants each for adequate distribution of their product. New entrants would have a hard time investing enough capital that would be required to keep up with Coke and Pepsi’s istribution. Advertising and promotion costs are also high in 2004; Coca Cola spent $246,243 just on advertising their cola product. This shows that in order to compete in this industry, entrants are forced to spend large sums of money on advertising, packaging, proliferation, and widespread retail price discounting. The high capital investment also translates to lowers profit margins, which mak es entry even more unappealing. Another factor that creates a barrier to entry is the unequal access to distribution channels. Coke and Pepsi created agreements with their franchised bottlers that prevent them from handling competing brands of other concentrate producers. This prevents companies from entering an industry and using a Coca Cola bottler to get their product on the market. Also as Coca Cola and Pepsi grow in size so does the shelf space they require. As stated previously Coca Cola and Pepsi produce around 10 brands each, this constricts the amount of shelf space an entry producer will have access to. The top two cola companies have also made a significant amount of acquisitions, to boost the distribution of their products relative to their competitors. Coca Cola won 68% pouring rights against Pepsi’s 22% and Cadbury Schweppes 10%, across the United States. The reason Coca Cola has a majority of the pouring rights is because their agreements with Burger King and McDonalds, as well as their exclusive pouring rights and contracts around the world; whereas entry producers do not have the capital to invest, in buying out pouring rights. The ability to use vending machine technology requires a high capital investment from incumbent firms. Coca Cola and Pepsi offer their bottlers incentives to develop vending machine technology which accounts for 34% of the industry sales volume. Entry companies would have to invest in this technology to compete with the volume sales figures. One of the marketing goals of a company is to establish brand loyalty. When brand loyalty is achieved, customers will most likely not switch to a competitors brand. As a barrier to entry, brand loyalty is affected by many factors, such as presence in the market, or advertising and promotion efforts, to name a few. Both Coca Cola and Pepsi were created in the 80’s, as pioneers of the cola industry. Coca Cola was the first to invent the original cola recipe, and patent the 6. -oz bottle. Coca Cola also used strong promotional efforts in World War II, which contributed to brand identity. The case does not supply information regarding the sales across different age groups, but I believe figures would suggest higher sales levels across the ages compared to newer brands. It is apparent that the companies with the longest presence in the industry have the highest market share, which also directly correlates with the amount of advertising each company has expended over time. Another perfect example of this trend in the CSD industry is energy drink company Red Bull, having the largest market share while also spending the most on advertising. This goes to show by having consistently strong promotional efforts and advertising both Coca Cola and Red Bull have excelled in their markets. It is difficult for new entrants of soft drink market to match the brand loyalty Coca Cola has established through aggressive advertising over the course of the company’s existence. Rivalry In the beverage industry rivalry is at best a mechanism that drives profits and keeps the industry in motion. Coca Cola explains that they are in the position they are in today because of their rivalry with Pepsi. Rivalry is high because of the competition between top brands, low product differentiation and slow industry growth. It is clear that there is a substantial rivalry between Coca Cola and Pepsi that alone claim 74. 8 % of the U. S. CSD market as of 2004. Not only does this information tell us that there is a small amount of major competitors in the industry, but it also says that there is a fight for market share with the top two brands. This is most exemplified in the advertising expenditure of the two companies. During 2003 Pepsi spend a total of $236,396 on advertising while Coca Cola spent $167,675; the year after Coke responded by raising their advertising expenditure to $246,243. This trend also happened in 1981 to 1984, when coke doubled its advertising spending; as a result Pepsi did as well. The next variable that contributes to the high degree of rivalry is the low product differentiation. Although there are many efforts made by beverage companies to differentiate their product from others, there are no truly unique attributes about a single CSD brand. Each cola company provides a elatively similar option in packaging, container size and ounces per container. It is typical for companies such as Coca Cola and Pepsi offer 10 different brands, 17 container types and provide many discounts and promotions. For example Coke make Sprite and Pepsi has Sierra Mist and Dr Pepper owns 7UP; this creates a rivalry over who has the best lemon lime soft drink product. To show my point, Pepsi launch ed â€Å"The Pepsi Challenge†, which gave customers the ability to try out the different brands and see how they compare. Pepsi knew they needed to find a way to show consumers the difference between their brand and the competitors. This approach fueled the rivalry among other CSD companies especially Coca Cola. Slow industry growth spurs rivalry because it calls for companies to develop new competitive advantages and core competencies to keep sales alive. The market share for cola products has dropped from 71% in 1990, to 60% in 2004. Other products such as energy drinks and bottled water are increasing in market share, as consumers switch their focus to more functional and healthy alternatives. Beach Karaoke Club stands the benefit of enrolling the internal surplus and already trained staff. . If the transportation is efficient. it will hold a zero chance cost. But there is a possibility of deficit in work force due to the big new undertaking. and hiring of staff brings with itself addition in the costs. Hotel’s gross will besides be affected due to any negative affect on the sale of the suites. This in bend will besides hold an impact on the operating disbursals related to the room. which is straight relative to the room gross revenues. The initial investing for this undertaking will be of decor. furniture and equipments. Salary costs. nutrient and drink costs. fixs and care costs will be the major disbursals for this undertaking along with other operational disbursals. In this analysis. merely incremental hard currency flows are relevant. This is why involvement payments are non taken into consideration. Even depreciation is deductible for revenue enhancement intents and do non account for hard currency flows. These two reciprocally sole undertakings can be ranked through assorted assessment standards. On the footing of given capital information. an 11. 0 % of leaden mean cost of capital is computed. Same is used for dismissing all the hard currency flows in the undertakings. Equivalent Annual Cash Flow method ( EACF ) is used to compare the two undertakings more efficaciously with respect to length and clip. A comparative analysis will demo that when the wages of the Beach Karaoke Club undertaking exceed 5. 47 % of its gross revenues. the Planet Karaoke undertaking becomes more cost-efficient. Additionally. Beach Club project’s EACF will be less as compared to the other undertaking. if the gross revenues gross is less than 89. 69 % of the expected gross revenues. This undertaking seems more vulnerable to effects of capital cost due to its longer life period. Furthermore. this undertaking will once more be less preferable if its Cost of Capital ( COC ) rises above 25. 98 % . There are assorted other factors which can non be expressed numerically. but they do hold a major impact on the undertaking and hence on its choice. One of the major such factor is the safety and security issue. The development of a Karaoke Club will ask for many unwanted invitees like drug nuts. drinkers and felons. There incoming will certainly consequence the visits of people along with their household and kids and therefore. will convey approximately negative impact. In order to cover with any un pleasant fortunes. more security guards will hold to be hired which will convey with itself an addition in the operating costs ( informations for this is non provided for the analysis ) . On the other manus. such nine would besides convey with itself extra investing and sponsorship. Wanida should propose investing recommendation in the favour of Planet Karaoke Pubs. This undertaking retains a positive EACF under unfavourable state of affairss and warrants fixed income.

The Odyssey Essay

The Odyssey Essay The Odyssey Essay The Odyssey is characteristically classified as an epic though not all readers may find this book an epic. This book is certainly an epic since it is a heroic tale that is filled with many obstacles which the hero concurs. Also the tone that is used in the book is one of admiration which goes to increase the worthiness of the hero. This book is also full of supernatural powers that influence what is happening in the book. In this essay each of these three characteristics will be proved thus proofing that the odyssey is indeed an epic. Book one of the Homers Odyssey foretells what is going to happen in the next twenty three books of the Homer’s Odyssey after the incantation of the Muse, the book then vividly shows the events leading to Athena’s appearance before the council of gods to seek their assistance in bringing Odysseus safe and sound back to his kingdom of Ithaca. After Troy is destroyed, the Greeks try to go back home but are unable after they were cursed by the gods. The ones who make it are met by death upon their return. However, Odysseus is left alone on the island of Ogygia and is held captive for eight years by the beautiful goddess Kalypso. Odysseus tries to go back home but his journey is blocked by Poseidon the sea god as Odysseus had blinded his son the Kyklops Polyphemos. However, all the other gods apart from Poseidon are in support of Odysseus return home. Poseidon goes on vacation and the gods finally, in support of Athena, send out a messenger Hermes to instruct Kalypso to release Odyssyus after detaining him for seven years. â€Å"But now that god had gone off among the sunburnt races, most remote of men, at earths two verges, in sunset lands and lands of the rising sun, to be regaled by smoke of thighbones burning, haunches of rams and bulls, a hundred fold†.( Demilio) In the intervening time, Athena arranges to influence Telemachus to take action. She does this by Disguising herself as a loyal friend of the family, Mentes, she descends to Ithaca to convince Telemachus to hold an meeting, reprimand the suitors, and commission a boat with crew to journey all the way through Hellas seeking news of his father. The gods feast as they discus Aegisthus, Agamemnon and Orestes. This is due to the fact that Aegisthus had made love to Agamemnon’s wife unlawfully and after that he went out and killed Agamemnon. The gods found this a great folly on Aegisthus as Hermes had been sending to warn him of his actions though he Aegisthus would not listen. His unlawful actions caught up with him when Agamemnon’s son Orestes killed him for the death of his father. This assists Agamemnons son to evolve to manhood and he then wins himself his patrimony. â€Å"Dont kill the man, dont touch his wife or face a reckoning with Orestes the day he comes of age and wants his patrimony.†(Demilio) Telemachus had to obtain the support of the Ithacan elders the same way Athena held a meeting of the gods before she was able to get her plan underway. Athena said she will go to Ithaca to rouse Odysseus son to action. Telemachos complains to the congregation about the demeanor demonstrated by the suitors upon which he requests them to retreat to their dwellings. Two of the most important suitors, Antinoos and Eurymachos, are the potential candidates in this course. Antinoos whines about the way Penelope tricked them while she delayed her promise of choosing her husband. With Athenes assistance, Telemachos heads to Pylos, or the the city of Nestor. At Pylos, Telemachos is welcomed received by the king Nestor who narrates him stories of the leaving from Troy, the assassination of Agamemnon and the return of Menelaos. Encouraged by Telemachos’, Nestor narrates in more detail the tale of Klytaimestra and Aigisthos their scheme not in favor of Agamemnon, and Orestes’ avenging of his father’s murder. Telemachos and Peisistratos reach Menelaos palace and find king celebrating having a celebration. The following day, Menelaos narrates his close-up with Proteus, the Sea. Helen remembers how happy she was when Odysseus slayed many Trojans before he left. The Trojan women raised a cry but my heart sang for I had come round, long before, to dreams of sailing home, and I repented the mad day Aphrodite drew me away from my dear fatherland, forsaking all child, bridal bed, and husband a man without defect in form or mind. (Demilio) Odysseus is released by the nymmpho Kalypso and he goes to the land Phaiakians. When odessyeus disembarks at the fortress of Alkinoos he is accorded a place at the banquet and the king promises him that he will assist him to get back to his home. Odysseus narrates his return to Circes’ Island and how she alerted him of the threats they would get ahead. After he ends his story, Nestor starts to sum up the events of the Trojan warfare involving Telemachos, Odysseus son, but he gives up somewhere along the way, exclaiming: Odysseus and his son return to, though separately, to Ithaka. Odysseus makes himself known to his son and planned revenge on the suitors. He then returns to his palace. He returns dressed as a beggar. Penelope comes up with a contest to figure out the suitor she will marry. Each of them fails to shoot the mark with Odysseus bow. Disguised Odysseus is however, able to shot the mark and he reveals himself to the suitors. All of them are killed while the servants who were disloyal are punished. Finally, Penelope and Odysseus are reunited. ______________ is a professional essay writing service which can provide high school, college and university students with 100% original custom written essays, research papers, term papers, dissertations, courseworks, homeworks, book reviews, book reports, lab reports, projects, presentations and other assignments of top quality. Complete List Open Admission Colleges With 100% Admission

Complete List Open Admission Colleges With 100% Admission SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you’re worried about getting into college, we're here with some news that may ease your mind: There are open admission colleges (aka open enrollment colleges), colleges that offer admission to all students provided that they have a high school diploma or GED. Regardless of your GPA or standardized test scores, you can have the opportunity to pursue a college degree at one of these schools. In this article, we'll define open admission colleges, explain the pros and cons of attending a college with open admissions, and provide you with a list of four-year colleges with a 100% acceptance rate. What Is an Open Admission College? Open admission, or open enrollment, means that everybody who has a high school diploma or GED can attend. Nobody is rejected. Open admission schools have an acceptance rate of 100%. Generally, you don’t have to take the SAT or ACT to be admitted, but many open admission colleges require placement tests. Types of Colleges That Are Open Admission There are public, private independent, private liberal arts, and private religious colleges that are open admission. Examples of public open admission colleges include UTEP, Metropolitan State, and Weber State. The University of Pikeville is an open admission liberal arts college. Arlington Baptist College and Jarvis Christian College are open admission religious colleges. Also, some colleges with open enrollment, including Baker College and Dixie State University offer both associate (2-year) and bachelor's (4-year) degrees. Furthermore, some open admission universities offer distance or online education. The majority of community colleges are open admission. At a community college, you can get a trade certificate, an associate degree, or transfer to a 4-year college to get your bachelor's degree. Community Colleges (2-Year) vs. Open Admission Colleges (4-Year) Although most community colleges and all 4-year open admission universities accept anyone who applies, there are still some major differences between the two types of programs. Most importantly, the bachelor’s degree you receive from a 4-year college is a more advanced degree and will provide more job opportunities than the associate degree you receive from a 2-year college. Nonetheless, each type of school has its own benefits. Let's go through them. Benefits of Attending a Community College Even though 4-year colleges tend to be more highly regarded than community colleges, community colleges do offer some advantages. Lower Cost Most community colleges are a fraction of the price of 4-year colleges.According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the average cost of tuition and fees for 2018/2019 at a two-year school was only $3,660, just over one-third of the cost for a year at a four-year public institution. You Can Transfer to a Four-Year College Community colleges offer you the opportunity to transfer to a 4-year college and get a bachelor’s degree. In fact, many public 4-year colleges offer guaranteed admission to in-state community college students if they fulfill certain requirements. Some of my former students attended community college and were able to transfer to prestigious colleges like UC-Berkeley and UCSD. Many Community Colleges Offer Certificates in Specific Trades Whereas 4-year colleges tend to offer degrees in more academic or scholarly fields, most community colleges offer certificates in trades that directly lead to employment. The majority of certificate programs can be completed in less than a year. Common certificate fields of study include health care, cosmetology, auto mechanics, and computer and information services. You can get a cosmetology certificate at a community college. (COD Newsroom/Flickr) Benefits of Attending a Four-Year College Besides the increased opportunities and higher income you're likely to receive if you get a bachelor's degree vs. an associate degree, there are additional benefits of attending a 4-year college right out of high school. You're More Likely To Get a Bachelor's Degree Students are more likely to get a bachelor’s degree if they start their post-high school education at a 4-year college. In my experience, only the most motivated students who attended community college ended up transferring and receiving bachelor’s degrees. While everyone at a 4-year college is pursuing a bachelor’s degree, many community college students aren’t. You have to be more driven and fulfill all the necessary requirements to transfer to a 4-year college. Better Social Life Four-year colleges tend to offer better social lives for their students. Many community college students only spend time on campus when they’re in class. The average age of community college students is older; there are many part-time students and older people who are trying to continue their educations. At four-year colleges, even those where the majority of students don’t live on campus, there are usually more extracurricular activities and out-of-class interaction between students. Takes Less Time To Get a Bachelor's Degree On average, it takes longer for a community college student to receive a bachelor’s degree than it does for a student who starts at a 4-year college. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the average time it takes to complete a bachelor’s degree is: 71 months for students who begin at 2†year colleges 55 months for students who begin at 4-year public colleges 50 months for students who begin at 4-year private colleges The lower cost of community colleges mightbe offset by the additional time it could take to receive a bachelor’s degree. Open Admission vs. More Selective Colleges You may end up deciding between an open enrollment college and a more selective college when you're making your college decision. I'll break down the advantages of each type of institution. Benefits of Open Admission Colleges Because of the lower admission requirements at colleges with open admissions, it may be easier to excel in more demanding subjects at an open admission college because you’re likely competing with fewer gifted students, and you may be able to maintain a higher GPA. A higher college GPA can increase your chances of gaining admission to graduate or professional schools and getting certain jobs after you graduate from college. Also, the cost of open admission colleges, especially public open admission colleges, is usually lower than those of more selective institutions. Even when comparing private colleges, colleges with open enrollment tend to be cheaper than more selective schools. The tuition and fees for Jarvis Christian College, a private Christian college with open enrollment in Hawkins, Texas is $,720. That's significantly cheaper than the $48,330 tuition and fees for Rice University, a selective private school in Houston, Texas. For comparison, the tuition and fees for Texas AM, a public university, is $,036 for in-state students and $31,214 for out-of-state students. Lastly, open admission colleges offer you the opportunity to be around more diverse types of students. Open enrollment colleges typically enroll many more older students and part-time students who might have full-time jobs or families. More selective colleges tend to be composed mostly of students who did well in high school and attended college right after graduating high school. Part of the education you receive in college comes from being around different types of people who have different backgrounds and perspectives. You can save money by attending an open admission college. (Images Money/Flickr) Benefits of More Selective Colleges Often, schools are judged based on their acceptance rates. Schools with higher acceptance rates tend to have worse reputations than more selective colleges. While you can accomplish your academic and professional goals by studying at any college, it can be more difficult to get certain jobs or admitted to more selective graduate school programs from a less prestigious university. More selective colleges often have a higher caliber of student. In college, you learn from and are inspired by your peers. More selective schools have a greater percentage of driven students with advanced academic skills. Lastly, more selective schools typically have more resources. Because they have more resources, more selective schools often have better dorms, academic facilities, and more prestigious professors. List of Open Admission Colleges All of the colleges on the list are 4-year colleges with 100% acceptance rates. I put the public colleges are in bold. Besides these colleges, there are a number of colleges that are close to open admission. They have acceptance rates of between 97% and 99.9%. Assuming you meet minimum requirements, you’ll almost definitely gain admission. Check out our list of schools with the highest acceptance rates. Some seminaries and schools of religious teaching, like yeshivas and rabbinical colleges, are also open admission, but I didn't include them in this list. Alabama School City State Columbia Southern University Orange Beach AL Heritage Christian University Florence AL California School City State Academy of Art University San Francisco CA Coleman University San Diego CA Life Pacific College San Dimas CA National University La Jolla CA Northwestern Polytechnic University Fremont CA Connecticut School City State Holy Apostles College and Seminary Cromwell CT District of Columbia School City State University of the Potomac Washington DC Idaho School City State Boise Bible College Boise ID Lewis-Clark State College Lewiston ID Kentucky School City State University of Pikeville Pikeville KY Massachusetts School City State Boston Architectural College Boston MA Maryland School City State University of Maryland University College Adelphi MD Michigan School City State Baker College of Auburn Hills Auburn Hills MI Baker College of Cadillac Cadillac MI Baker College of Clinton Township Clinton Township MI Baker College of Flint Flint MI Baker College of Jackson Jackson MI Baker College of Muskegon Muskegon MI Baker College of Owosso Owosso MI Baker College of Port Huron Port Huron MI Minnesota School City State Metropolitan State University St. Paul MN Missouri School City State Missouri Western State University St. Joseph MO Harris-Stowe State University St. Louis MO Nebraska School City State Wayne State College Wayne NE New Hampshire School City State Granite State College Concord NH New Mexico School City State New Mexico Highlands University Las Vegas NM Santa Fe University of Art and Design Santa Fe NM Western New Mexico University Silver City NM New York School City State Medgar Evers College Brooklyn NY Ohio School City State Ohio University Southern Ironton OH Oklahoma School City State Cameron University Lawton OK Oklahoma Panhandle State University Goodwell OK Texas School City State Arlington Baptist College Arlington TX Fisher More College Fort Worth TX University of Texas at El Paso El Paso TX Jarvis Christian College Hawkins TX Utah School City State Dixie State College St. George UT Utah Valley University Orem UT Weber State University Ogden UT Washington School City State City University of Seattle Bellevue WA What's Next? Labor Economics - Essay Example James Watt had perfected the modern steam engine which became the foremost energy source and ushered the era of Industrial Revolution. The United States had declared its independence from England and thereafter became the epitome of industrialization. Eight hundred thirty seven years later, many postindustrial societies are transitioning to internationalized information societies that have brought about myriad changes and challenges which are the subjects and objects of the study of labor economics. 2. Discussion Labor economics is a social science that analyzes, makes inferences, and theorizes about organizations, institutions, and behavior of the markets for wage labor in industrializing, industrialized, or internationalized information economies. Because labor and the study of labor is of paramount importance and naturally linked to the wealth of a nation’s economy, it is essential that governments thoroughly analyze and investigate its many facets. A government can also use this type of data to determine or curb unemployment and assess the impact of labor on a nation’s economy. A country’s labor force is the number of individuals age 16 and over (working age by law), who are employed, self-employed or actively seeking employment. The Nature of the Pharmaceutical Industry Assignment

The Nature of the Pharmaceutical Industry - Assignment Example I would ask them to give me the medications for now for the life of my loved one is in danger and will ask them to pay for it in installments. If they do not agree to this, I will have no other option besides breaking in and stealing the medicine, for the life of someone I love is in danger. At that particular time, I am not going to have any ethical consideration, because all that will be running in my mind would be saving the life of someone I love. I will be ready for the consequences of my actions because I am aware of the fact that what I would do is wrong and its result will not be in my favor but for the time being my initial goal will be nothing but saving someone’s life. I do not care if they will file a law suit against me for at that time my only priority will be saving the person I love. 2.  As the Chief Executive of a medicine supply business, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of my consumer. Curleys Wife and Crooks in John Steinbecks Of Mice and Men Essay

Curley's Wife and Crooks in Of Mice and Men - Lord Chesterfield once said, "You must look into people, as well as at them." If you apply this logic to Curley's wife and Crooks in the book, Of Mice and Men, you will find that they are the same in many ways despite their differences in race and sex. These two unfortunate souls live in a world full of shattered dreams, discrimination, and loneliness. Langston Hughes once said, "Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly." This statement is undoubtedly a summary of the goals in Crooks, and Curley's wife's lives. Crooks had a glimmer of hope when Candy and Lennie told him of their plans of having their own farm. At first, he refused to believe in this because he had seen many men with the same intentions. Soon after, Crooks gets demoralized and realizes that he cannot enter a white world. He finally decides not to join the group. Curley's wife also had a goal, which was to become a movie star. Before she married Curley, she met an actor who came through her town with a show. He promised her that she was a naturally good actress, and that he would get her into the movie business. He also promised he would write her, but she never received the letter. She thought that her mother destroyed the letter before she could read it. It can be assumed that the actor used his fame and position to have fun with Curley's wife. He promised to get her into movies to make her happy so ...

Elcano vs. Hill case

NATUREAppeal from an order of the CFI Quezon CityFACTSReginald Hill, a minor yet married at the time of occurrence, was criminally prosecuted for the killing of Agapito Elcano (son of Pedro), and was acquitted for ―lack of intent to kill, coupled with mistake.â€â€" – Pedro Elcano filed a complaint for recovery of damages from Reginald and his father Atty Marvin. CFI dismissed it.ISSUESWON the civil action for damages is barred by the acquittal of Reginald in the criminal case wherein the action for civil liability was not reversed2. WON Article 2180 (2nd and last par) of the CC can be applied against Atty. Hill, notwithstanding the fact that at the time of the occurrence, Reginald, though a minor, living with and getting subsistence from his father, was already legally married.HELD1. NOThe acquittal of Reginal Hill in the criminal case has not extinguished his liability forquasi-delict, hence that acquittal is not a bar to the instant action against him.  Ã¢â‚¬â€œÃ ‚  Barredo v Garcia  (dual character — civil and criminal—  of fault or negligence as a source of obligation):†The above case is pertinent because it shows that the same act may come under both the Penal Code and the Civil Code. In that case, the action of the agent was unjustified and fraudulent and therefore could have been the subject of a  criminal action. And yet, it was held to be also a proper subject of a civil action under article 1902 of the Civil Code.It is also to be noted that it was the employer and not the employee who was being sued.†Ã¢â‚¬ It will be noticed that the defendant in the above case could have been prosecuted in a criminal case because his negligence causing the death of the child was punishable by the Penal Code. Here is therefore a clear instance of the same act of negligence being aproper subject matter either of a criminal action with its consequent civil liability arising from a crime or of an entirely separate and ind ependent civil action for fault or negligence under article 1402 of the Civil Code. Thus, in this jurisdiction, the separate individuality of a c quasi-delito  or culpa aquiliana under the Civil Code has been fully and clearly recognized, even with regard to a negligent act for which the wrongdoer could have been prosecuted and convicted in a criminal case aria for which, after un a conviction, he could have been sued for this civil liability arising from his crime.Culpa aquiliana  includes acts which are criminal in character or in violation of a penal law, whether voluntary or negligent.-ART 1162: â€Å"Obligations derived from quasi-delicts shall be governed by the provisions of Chapter 2, Title XVII of this Book, (on quasi-delicts) and by special laws.† More precisely, Article 2177 of the new code provides:†ART 277. Responsibility for fault or negligence under the preceding article is entirely separate and distinct from the civil liability arising front negligen ce under the Penal Code. But the plaintiff cannot recover damages twice for the same act or omission of the defendant.
